Your Holiness, when I took a class on Buddhism during my second semester as a Ph.D. student in the World Religions, I did my final paper on the evolution of the office of the Dalai Lama, in other words, I wanted to discover how the position of Dalai Lama came to be. I read your book "Freedom In Exile" a number of times and truly enjoyed how candid you were in writing it. My cousin, Tara Melwani, runs your office in Singapore and she just moved to Nepal on the wishes of her three gurus, which included you as one of them. She shares pockets of wisdom that she gains from you with me and it always brings joy to my life. I have a collection of YouTube videos of you and each time I watch one of them, I am filled with positive energy, and desire to be a better human being. I would like to thank you for making this film with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The friendship you share sets an example for all human beings: that we can transcend our spiritual and cultural differences and embrace someone from across the globe and make hm or her our friend.
